"Reaching the Goal"
Educating our Youth about Cancer Awareness, Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle, and Leading a Team
There once was a girl named Vicky
She was going through a time that was tricky
She knew someone who had an illness called cancer
She immediately knew that she had to find an answer
At school, a boy named Miles asked Vicky once before:
“What is cancer and how can I learn more?
Does it go away and is there a cure?
There are so many things that I am unsure!”
Vicky went to the principal one day
She has so many ideas, there cannot be any delay
She planned a soccer game for the entire school to play
To educate students about cancer- hip, hip, hooray!
Soccer day is here and everyone is enjoying the sunny weather
Paying five dollars to watch; the money goes to make cancer patients better
Miles is in his uniform; all ready to go,
But Vicky pulls him aside and says, “There are a few things that you should know”
“I am going to teach you five things you can do to help yourself and others
You can tell these tips to friends, teachers, and even your mother and brother
Following these tips each and every day will help you grow up nice and strong,
Hurry Miles! Before the game starts, quick! Come along!”
Before the game starts, Vicky and Miles went to get a snack
Vicky took out a bag of carrot sticks from her cute pin-striped lunch sack
“Eating healthy foods like vegetables and fruit,
Will help prevent certain cancers, and will take you on the right route!
Focus on the five food groups: vegetables, dairy, grain, fruit, and meat
Because too much cake, brownies, ice cream, and cookies all the time is not good for you to eat”
“Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is also good for you, trust me
You can run, dance, or even walk in the summer by the sea
Exercising gets your heart pumping and you end up feeling great
You can even ride your bike, scooter, or speed past with your skates”
“Now, do you see that lady by the bleachers over there?
She is smoking a cigarette and that is not good for the air!
Being by a smoker affects your lungs and the air you breathe, too
So to stay healthy, grab a friend and go find someplace new”
“BLEEEP” went the whistle, blown by the coach dressed in black and white,
“We are starting the game now, or else we will be here for the entire night!”
Miles ran into the field hearing tons of excitement and applause
But he had to focus on winning the game, because the money is for a good cause
Miles ran into the field and moved the ball left and right with his feet
He scored two goals, but he did not feel well because of the dreadful heat
Vicky saw Miles from the bleachers and noticed on his skin that there was sunburn
She told the coach to call a time out because there was still more that Miles needed to learn
Here is something pretty neat:
Sunscreen! It protects your skin from the heat!
A hat prevents those harmful UV rays that come from the sun
Taking care of your skin helps prevent cancer, and keeps your skin looking nice and young!”
Miles returned back to his team and stood by the net
Miles’s team was winning, because the other team had not scored yet
The game passed by quickly, and there were two more points left to score
The ball whooshed through the other net, and the crowd started to roar
Miles’s team had won and the team decided to celebrate
Vicky was happy, but there was one more thing which she would educate
She walked Miles over to a table that had ribbons which were colors of the rainbow,
Vicky proclaimed, “By giving out these ribbons, you are making a difference for cancer, and the entire school will know!”
A boy named Ryan walked over to Miles,
When he received the ribbon, he started to smile,
“Miles, how is our soccer game helping cancer patients?
Will it help with certain treatment options, including operations?”
“Vicky told me that the money is helping others; here is the plan:
It will allow patients to go to doctors nearby if they cannot pay for a car or a van,
It will help scientists to hopefully research and find a cure,
Because the money being donated pays for new technology that cannot simply be bought from a store”
Vicky went up to the soccer team, and screamed, “‘Yes, Yes, Yes!’
We reached our goal and the game was surely a success!”
Vicky and Miles were happy to help with cancer research by working together,
Because working as a team made a nationwide battle better!
